Ukrainian documentary film. An in-depth study of the history of Transcarpathia in the period 1919–1939 was filmed by the film studio "Invert Pictures" on the order of the public organization "Western Ukrainian Historical Research Center". "Silver Earth" continues the series of documentaries about the history of Ukraine. The previous project is the film "Golden September. Chronicle of Galicia 1939–1941" (2010). The premiere season of the new documentary film in the cities of Ukraine began on March 14, 2012 in the city of Uzhhorod. Details The film combines three storylines - stories eyewitnesses, little-known documents, expertly photographed landscapes and artistic scenes. In the sound palette of the film, the author's and ethnic music are harmoniously interwoven. The footage of the newsreel of cinematographer Kalenik Lysyuk, Czechoslovak military chronicles, as well as materials of the British journalist Michael Winch and the correspondent of the American newspaper New York Times Ann McCormick, who worked in Carpathian Ukraine at that time as international observers, were used to create the film. An important line in the documentary is the memories of eyewitnesses and participants of the events of the interwar period in Transcarpathia. In total, more than 20 people were interviewed for the film. In particular, excerpts of memories from interviews of Stepan Stoyka, Yevhen Gladyshevskyi, Yuriy Slivka, Vasyl Beley, Bohdan Pryshlyakevych, Anastasia Halakhan and others were used in the film. Some of the eyewitnesses have already died (Mykhailo Petrychko and Panko Popovych). The film recreates the cultural life, elements of clothing and daily life of the Rusyn-Ukrainians of Transcarpathia, reconstructs the costumes of the Sichovs of the Carpathian Sich, the uniforms of the plastuns, skillfully filmed mountain landscapes. Such details make the film colorful and acquaint the modern viewer with the cultural features of the area and people who lived in 1919-1939. Even specially filmed artistic scenes used in the film are recreated based on historical facts. The tape is a new attempt to realize the historical role of Transcarpathia for Ukraine and Central-Eastern Europe. This is an epic story about the history of the development and formation of this picturesque corner of Ukraine. After all, in the past, the multinational region has repeatedly become the cause of wars and geopolitical conflicts. An important addition to the film on DVD is a separate disc called "Music of the Silver Land". The gift music collection includes works by Ukrainian bands and individual performers, including "Bourdon", "Good People", "Carton", "Propala Gramota", Choir "Homin", Vladislav Levytskyi, "Black Cherries", "Hoods", "Rokash", "Divni", "Picardiyska Tertsia". The song "Fight in the Mountains" by Orest Prus from the group "Carton" and the song "Just Wait" by Vladislav Levytskyi were written especially for the film. Other songs were written earlier, but in the new performance they acquired a new sound. Work on the film Work on the film continued throughout 2010-2012, in total over 15 months. About a hundred people participated in the creation of the film. Filming took place in the same geographical locations that are mentioned in historical chronicles and stories - Uzhgorod, Lviv, Husta, Berehove, Kolochava, Veliky Bychkov, Yasin, in the Carpathian passes. The unusual format of the film is a new experience for Ukrainian documentary cinema, which the creators called "epic documentary cinema".
