The common thread between these films is that they were made over the last two years in Los Angeles. Emphasizing that the history of Los Angeles is the history of a young city, almost all the filmmakers fall under the category of migrants or immigrants (in the 1920s and 30s, about 300 people moved to Los Angeles every day). In my opinion, this is what these works explore: what is the meaning of moving to a new place, how does it affect us, how does the city give us opportunities to realize ourselves, to get a job, ultimately to be free? At the same time, it negates the importance of industry using the same resources as us. We see work by Los Angeles residents who actually come from Argentina (Lucano Piazza), Michigan (Andrew Kim), Korea (Min Jung Kim), England (Charlotte Price), Florida (Mike Stoltz), San Francisco (Christina Nguyen), Canada (me), New York (Laura Kreining). None of the films can be called a symphony of the city, but all of them are inspired by Los Angeles or the kilometers that separate them from their native places.
