A 19-year-old Jewish woman named Esti is running away from her marriage and the ultra-Orthodox community in Williamsburg. She moves to Berlin, where her mother lives, and tries to lead a social life and attend classes at the conservatory. Her husband, having learned that Esti is pregnant, goes to Berlin with his cousin on the order of the rabbi to try to find her.
